One Song One Dollar

By Mike “Spoons” Sheerin

For nearly six years, Aeronaut has been so lucky to be surrounded by the amazing local arts community of our weird little corner of the Greater Boston Area. Providing a platform for local artists and musicians is integral to our mission, and until lately we have enjoyed hosting five nights of live music per week, every week. And we’ll get back to that as soon as we can. But right now, along with so many others, our local music community is hurting.

There are a million sappy platitudes we could say about the importance of music, and nobody needs to hear them. I love music, you love music. Music brings people together. However, during a pandemic bringing people together physically becomes impossible. This means cancelled gigs and lost income for musicians. But even in this trying time, our local music community is still finding ways to bring people together (while maintaining social distance) by way of amazing digital content!

This is our One Song One Dollar initiative. On this page Aeronaut will be hosting short, live-from-the-living-room performances from some of our incredibly talented local artists. If you like their music, we encourage you to donate one dollar to them.

Think of it like digital busking: You’re walking down a digital street, you’ve stumbled upon these musicians playing their hearts out to a digital crowd, and that “Donate” link is their digital hat waiting for you to put some ducket in the bucket. Appropriate PayPal/Venmo information is included with each video. Some artists have asked that donations be sent to organizations of their choice, and information is included for that as well. This page will be updated continuously throughout this pandemic, so please check back whenever you are in the mood to hear some awesome local music.

Additionally, we encourage you to check out the work that our friends at The Record Company are doing to help the Greater Boston area arts community:

“Windowgazer” – our Corn Lager, released in support of The Record Co.’s Boston Music Maker COVID-19 Fund.

Due to widespread event cancellations, music makers are struggling. The Record Co., a 501c3 nonprofit community music organization, has established a fund to provide financial relief to Boston area music makers experiencing lost income as the result of performance cancellations related to coronavirus and COVID-19. Small grants of up to $200 are being paid rapidly on a first come, first served basis to affected artists and groups. To learn more about the fund and apply or donate, please visit therecordco.org/covid-19. Donate today and help your local music community in a time of need.

From the Aero family to yours, we wish you all the safety and sanity needed to get through this difficult time. With a little luck we’ll all get to raise a glass to local live music sometime soon, and in the meantime we can enjoy these much-needed musical snippets from our community. Cheers, friends!

Our newest addition to the One Song One Dollar initiative: ELLEN MCNEILL, a local musician bringing people together from around the globe!

Ellen has brought 131 people from all over the world together to spread positivity and promote global community. She’s been playing cover requests and collecting money which she’s donating to a different charity each week. Venmo her at @ellenmcneill to contribute to this week’s charity.
